The Government of Sindh and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) launched the first Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Report for Sindh in Karachi today. The Report tracks progress toward the achievement of MDGs at the provincial level and compare progress across districts.

Proportion of the poor in 1990-91 was 26.1 percent and MDG target of halving the proportion means a target of 13 percent for 2015. Pakistan has defined four indicators for goal 3. The first indicator is Gender Parity Index (GPI) for primary, secondary and tertiary education. At primary level the index in 1990-91 was 0.73 which has increased to 0.85 by 2004-05 and the MTDF has a target of 0.94 so that the GPI at primary level is achieved by 2015.
