Background

Area Development Programme Balochistan II (ADBP) is a flagship project of UNDP to alleviate poverty in nine districts of Balochistan. This community-based programme has been upgraded from its initial phase, which commenced in 1999. The second phase draws on best practices of the first phase and focuses on key issues of local development in targeted districts. 

Objectives:

To contribute to poverty reduction in target areas through increased income and access to productive assets

Project Brief

In collaboration with the Planning and Development Department, Government of Balochistan, UNDP works to build and rehabilitate waterchannels and irrigation systems, better manage natural resources, improve crop and livestock productivity, and develop access to market and services.

The project focuses on enhancing the scale and productivity of the existing agriculture and livestock sectors. This is crucial to improve livelihoods in rural areas.

interventions are undertaken with community engagement through cost‐sharing with the community contributing up to 30% of the costs.

Key Results


959 Community Organizations (COs) formed. More than 4,770 community/village leaders trained in Community Management Skills teffectively improve the efficiency of COs;

More than 324,000 animals vaccinated and approximately 160,000 de-wormed. Ownership of livestock assets enhanced through the distribution of more than 11,500 small ruminants. Livestock management and skills training imparted to 4,261 beneficiaries.

81 Community Livestock Extension Workers trained and provided livestock kits.

More than 10,000 Kareez (irrigation channels) rehabilitated through cleaning and extension. Water storage capacity increased with approximately 18,600 water reservoirs and channel lines constructed.

Natural resource management support provided through construction and repair of 45,276 Water Harvesting Structures.  240 Green Houses with at least 11,000 plants set up and managed by local
