MDG-Driven Poverty Policy Package

Objectives

To contribute to an MDG-responsive poverty reduction through evidence-based poverty policy planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting.

Key Achievements

Background studies on the impact of globalization, inequality, gender, unemployment and environment issues on poverty-reduction in Pakistan.

The costing of MDGs 2, 4-6 and parts of 7 (related to education, health, water & sanitation) undertaken and the results fed into PRSP II.

Series of consultations at the national and sub national levels on PRSP II.

Research and analytical papers produced in the areas of poverty and vulnerability; budgetary analysis and impact on poor.

Poverty head count estimates and methodology validated by an international expert.

Curricula and training manuals developed in 53 trades (15 trades related to women fields).

Gender sensitive amendments in the Federal Medium Term Budgetary
Framework (MTBF) and Punjab's budget call circular are leading the way for a gendered analysis of budgetary allocations and their impact on results.

Punjab Government has approved Gender Budget Statement (GBS) as part of its annual budgetary documents.

Gender Aware Policy Appraisals for the Health, Education and Population sectors to identify key gaps between policy statements and resource allocations.

The first ever nationwide time use survey is being conducted through the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).
